Tonight is New Year's Eve. The night we say goodbye to one year and hello to
another. Is it just me, or are the days, weeks and months going by way too fast?
I hear and see a lot of people discussing that 2016 was the worst year ever. Yes, a lot of negative things happened. A war is still raging on in the middle east. Hurricanes happened in the south. The United States found themselves a new President, who, not everyone can agree on yet. Many people died this year, which seemed more than usual. And there was a devastating fire in Alberta. But, what about the good? In the United States, unemployment rates dropped, the markets rose to an all time high and wages were increased. The United States and Cuba came together and “removed the wall” so to speak. The Olympics were a success, bringing together countries to unite. Canada welcomed hundreds of Syrian refugees with open arms and several communities came together to ensure they had the essentials for life in Canada. Portugal won the European Cup! (sorry had to throw that in there!) The list goes on and on for both sides.
All of this got me thinking about MY 2016. It was another BIG and BUSY year for my family, both positive events and some negative. Despite my health being the “highlight” of my year, my family and I had some pretty awesome times. So, I made a list; (in no particular order)
We moved back to Toronto
Richard and I went to Whistler for the first time – I skied for the first time!
Richard and I went to Halifax, for the first time also.
I started working at a new branch, allowing me to meet some amazing people
Richard started a new career path, which allowed my family to move back to Toronto
My kids got to experience Canada’s Wonderland, The CNE, The Zoo, Centre Island, African Lion Safari and the several movies.
We attended birthday parties, baptisms, bbqs, engagement parties and family dinners
Babies were born!
We spent time at a beautiful cottage, where I swam in a lake for the first time
New friendships were formed
My son started school
Richard and I went to London, England – my first time!
My son started karate and soccer
I’m sure there are more that I am missing and I apologize if I am. Like I said, 2016 was a busy one! I could make a list of the downside of 2016 too, but I won’t. I left important friendships behind when we moved, new career paths meant a change in our finances and my health took a turn for the worst. I think that’s more than enough!
2017 holds so much potential, as did every other year prior. And, yes, I am one of those “new year, new me” type people – it really is the best time to start over and make changes! Here’s another list.
My goals for 2017;
Incorporate meditation into my daily routine
Gain more patience and understanding (especially with my kids!)
Eliminate candy from my diet
Really be mindful of my food choices – NO GRAINS NO DAIRY (and a bunch of other don’ts)
Begin exercising again
Be more present with my family/children
Less of my phone
Bring back the romance in my marriage
Most importantly, BE HAPPY!
Have you taken time to reflect on the past year, reflecting on both the positive and negative events? I encourage you to do so and while in the heat of it, reflect on what 2017 holds for you.
Happy New Year to you and your family. My only wish for you is HEALTH!
Have a wonderful night and wonderful January 1st, 2017!
